Beauty & Fashion Kuel Thought Leader: Gail Scott
The temps are heating up across the Northern Hemisphere and I think we are all ready to shift into our summer wardrobes.
10 Hot Choice Styles For Summer:
So, what should be in our closets this season? Let’s take a look at my top 10 choices.
1. Bamboo, Straw, & Raffia EVERYTHING Is A Huge Style Trend Right Now.
These natural fibers make up shoes, bags, belts, and jewelry. You will be hard-pressed to walk past a store that isn’t showcasing them. Choose a pair of earrings as an accent, or get a beautiful straw bag for a bigger impact. Regardless of your color type or personal style, there is an option for you to embrace this trend.
“Espadrilles are back! New modern takes on this classic have brought them back into the spotlight.”
You will find handbags, totes, and jewelry in all colors. Simple neutrals are plentiful, as well as bright colors with embroidery and other embellishments. In the stores you will see structured bags for a dressier look and less structured BOHO options for a casual look. The best thing about this trend? You can bring it into your closet for a very small price.
2. Espadrilles Are Back!
A new modern take on this classic has brought them back into the spotlight. Today’s espadrilles are available in all heel heights, and are a comfortable and fashionable summer option. Also Espadrille accents have also made their way onto sneakers and sandals. Braided and rope details tie in with the straw trend, making it easy to get a stylish cohesive look from head to toe.
3. Shirt And Safari Dresses – A Great Way To Feel Comfortable While Looking Sophisticated.
Linen, gauze, and chino fabrics lead the way in this trend that goes to the office, lunch, the ball field, or dinner. Style these up or down by adding a heeled sandal or a sneaker, the choice is yours. If you are looking for a dress that can fill many roles in your closet, look no further! And the safari version plays very well with the straw and bamboo trend so you can have your own “Out of Africa” moment.
4. Bermuda Shorts Are Taking The Spotlight From The Daisy Dukes.
The length of shorts (and skirts) is creeping downward, which is good news for those of us who don’t love our thighs. One of the hottest looks of the season is the short suit. Yes, shorts with jackets! Take me back to the 80s baby!
5. Culottes And Gauchos, Be Still My Heart!
As a tall gal, I always loved this cut. Cropped pants have made their way back up to the “just below the knee” length. The A-line shape of these garments is flattering on the body, so make sure to give them a try. Let’s all cross our fingers that the gauchos stick around this fall so that we can pair them with our tall boots.
6. Jumpsuits & Rompers Have Popped Up In Some Beautiful Styles.
Whether you fancy shorts or pants, simple or elegant, you can pick these up in many major retailers and boutiques. My clients have found them quite wearable and flattering, and a fun option to a dress. Petite ladies, the romper may be your thing, as they will be easier to fit than long jumpsuits. Add a kimono or oversized shirt tied at the waist for a layered look.
“If that length doesn’t work for your shape, choose longer over shorter options to look on trend.”
7. Crocheted Knits Are A Hot Look For Summer.
Choose your weave and whether you want a crocheted tank, a skirt, or a completer piece. All size ranges and color types can embrace this look, but I think the neutral tones are winning the season. You can pair a top with linen trousers or shorts for a winning combination that says SUMMER.
8. Hair Jewelry and Adornments – A Fun Style Trend For Summer.
Barettes, scarves, headbands, and even banana clips are accessories that helps us stay cool while keeping our style. Style your hair up or back with one of the decorative options, and then skip the heavy necklaces that can make us feel hot around our neck.
9. In A Welcome Shift, – Longer Denim Skirts Replace Micro Mini Options.
The midi “just below the knee” length with an A-line shape is a great option. If that length doesn’t work for your shape, choose longer over shorter options to look on trend.
10. Linen Is The Fabric Of The Season.
“10 hot trends to embrace or rebuke this summer”
But don’t panic, there are new options that do not wrinkle as much as the linen of our youth. Lightweight and breathable, this summer favorite is available in shorts, skirts, shirts, tees, tanks, jackets, dresses, and pants, so you can choose how to wear it. Another fabric option is gauze. This easy-care fabric gives a similar feel to linen, with less ironing, less structure, and a more casual look.
Well, there you go, 10 hot style trends to embrace or rebuke this summer. We would love to see pics on our social media posts showing you rocking your best seasonal looks!
