Marketing Kuel Life Thought Leader: Lori Lyons
Playing Big. It’s a concept that’s been gaining traction lately, but what does it really mean?
According to Tara Mohr, author of the book “Playing Big,” it’s about silencing the inner critic inside of us and listening to the voice of our inner wisdom.
It’s about:
- believing in ourselves,
- knowing our goals,
- taking risks, and
- surrounding ourselves with people who will stretch us.
“Having a plan will help you stay on track and keep the imposter monster at bay.
How Do We “Play Big”?
But how can we actually make it happen? How, exactly, do we “Play Big?”
We start by believing in ourselves – which is easier said than done. It’s not uncommon to feel like an imposter (hence the ever-popular buzzword “Imposter Syndrome”) and doubt our abilities, but Mohr reminds us that we only have to know 10% more than others to be considered an expert. So, make a plan and follow through with it. Write down your goals, big and small, and create a roadmap to achieve them. Having a plan will help you stay on track and keep the imposter monster at bay.
Playing Big also means knowing your numbers. You can’t grow your business or achieve your goals if you don’t know where you stand financially, with the number of customers, or with your pipeline. Keep your books in order and your finances up to date. Take calculated risks, but do take them.
You can’t grow without stretching yourself and getting uncomfortable. Surround yourself with people who will stretch you and who will help you achieve your goals. Join a coaching program or a mastermind group to get the support and accountability you need. According to recent research by MetrixGlobal LLC for a Fortune 500 firm, coaching had a significant influence on at least one of nine company metrics in 77% of cases.
Learn And Stay On Top:
It’s also important to expand your mind and become an expert in your field. To become an expert, read at least 100 books (or listen to them if that’s your preferred method of learning.)
Always be learning and stay on top of the changes in your industry. Don’t let technology be an excuse. Learn it, embrace it, and use it to your advantage. Playing big takes planning and a willingness to stretch yourself. It takes nerve and an ability to not worry about what people think. It takes support and celebration. Don’t forget to acknowledge your achievements, big or small.
Playing big can mean different things to different people, but generally, it involves pushing yourself out of your comfort zone, taking risks, and pursuing your goals with confidence and determination.
“Delegate tasks to others who can help you achieve your goals more efficiently.”
10 Ways You Can Play Big With Your Business And Your Life:
Here are 10 ways you can play big with your business and your life:
1. Set big, audacious goals:
Don’t be afraid to dream big and set ambitious goals for your business and your life. When you have a clear vision of where you want to go, you can make a plan to get there.
2. Take calculated risks:
Playing big often involves taking risks, but it’s important to do so in a smart and strategic way. Make sure you weigh the potential rewards against the potential risks before making any big decisions.
3. Learn new skills:
Expanding your skillset and knowledge base can help you take your business to the next level. Whether it’s taking a course or attending a conference, invest in your own personal and professional development.
4. Surround yourself with positive influences:
Connect with people who inspire you and push you to be your best.
5. Embrace failure:
Playing big also means being willing to fail and learn from your mistakes. Don’t let fear of failure hold you back from pursuing your goals.
6. Focus on your strengths:
Identify your strengths and find ways to leverage them in your business and your life. When you’re playing to your strengths, you’ll feel more confident and capable.
7. Be persistent:
Success rarely comes overnight, so be persistent in pursuing your goals. Keep pushing forward even when things get tough.
8. Take care of yourself:
Playing big can be exhausting, so make sure you prioritize self-care. Get enough sleep, eat well, and exercise regularly to keep your mind and body in top shape.
9. Delegate:
Don’t try to do everything yourself. Delegate tasks to others who can help you achieve your goals more efficiently.
10. Celebrate your successes:
Finally, take time to celebrate your successes along the way. Whether it’s a small win or a big achievement, make sure you take the time to acknowledge your progress and celebrate your hard work.
Keep Pushing Yourself:
In the end, playing big means taking responsibility for your life and your business. It means being brave enough to take risks and surround yourself with people who will lift you up. When my son was playing high level baseball – he always grew if he wasn’t the best player on the team. So keep pushing yourself to grow and become the best version of yourself. You don’t need to wait for a new year to start playing big. Every day is a new beginning. So go ahead and play big!
