Beauty Thought Leader: Elise Marquam-Jahns
If we have a wedding, special event, or party to attend and really want to look our best.
“But even just making one or two additional tweaks to our look can make a lovely improvement.”
Makeup Techniques:
It can be fun to take a few extra minutes to add several additional makeup techniques into our routine that take our look to the next level.
So in today’s video, I thought it would be fun to amp up an everyday makeup look by incorporating a few additional steps into my usual routine. I’ll be sharing eight things we can do to up our makeup game. Of course, we probably won’t do all of these things.
But even just making one or two additional tweaks to our look can make a lovely improvement.
Boost The Look Of Our Eyes:
-
Precise Eyebrows:
The first technique helps our brows look more precise and we need just two things in order to do this: concealer that matches our skin tone and a small, angled eyebrow brush. Apply the concealer right along the top and bottom edge of each eyebrow to give it even more definition and polish and then feather it out.
2. Pop The Eyes:
There are four things we can do to boost the look of our eyes. First, we can make our eyes pop a bit more by adding a touch of warm-toned eyeshadow if we’re wearing a cool-toned eyeshadow in the crease of our eyes.
Or, if we’re wearing a warm-toned eyeshadow in the crease, we can add a cool tone. In the video, I’ll add just a touch of two orange-toned colors I’ll mix together from the Juvia’s Place Warrior II palette. I’ll use a small pointed pencil brush so I can be very precise in my application. And I’ll apply the orange color just in the middle of my crease and bring it just along the top of the cool-toned color to the middle part of my eye and then I’ll thoroughly blend.
“To make lashes look longer and fuller, put a lash primer on the eyelashes before applying mascara.”
Makeup Tips For Our Eyes:
Second, we can tight line along the top waterline to give more definition and emphasis to our eyes.
There are a couple of different ways to tight line. Some people like to just rub the eyeliner under their lids, but I find it easier to pull my lid up and then apply the black eyeliner along my waterline. By adding black liner on the waterline in this way, we’re making our lashes look thicker and denser.

Amp Up Our Look With Our Eyelashes:
3. & 4. Fuller & Longer Lashes:
The third and fourth things we can do to amp up our look involve our eyelashes. To make lashes look longer and fuller, put a lash primer on the eyelashes before applying mascara. Then to give additional length and volume to the lashes, close your eye and apply some loose powder over and under the lashes before the mascara dries– and then apply a second coat of mascara.
5 & 6. Your Blush And You:
Next, consider making a couple of changes to your blush. Try applying some blush that has some built-in glow. In the video I’ll create my own blush with glow by mixing together Daniel Sandler’s Liquid Blush in “So Pretty”– which is a soft pink– with his highlighter called “Icing” to get a lovely soft, glowy blush look.
“We need a finishing powder that also provides some soft glow and blends together our entire look.”
An additional way to tweak your blush application is to bring just a bit of the blush up from your temple to just slightly over the brow. This is called blush “draping” and it helps create a soft harmonious and cohesive look.
Not Just Any Finishing Powder:
7. Glow & Blend At The Finish:
The seventh thing we can do is something that makes a subtle, but beautiful, difference. It’s adding in finishing powder, but not just any finishing powder. We need a finishing powder that also provides some soft glow and blends together our entire look.
And I’m sure those of you who have watched some of my videos will know exactly what product I’m going to use because frankly, I’m rather obsessed with it. It’s the Ambient Light finishing powder from Hourglass and I’ll be using the shade “Diffused Light.”
More Glow Makeup:
8. Did Someone Say More Glow?
And the eighth and final thing we can do is add just a bit more glow by applying some lip gloss and adding a touch of shimmer just to the middle of the eyelids. Adding shimmer equates to adding highlight to the area where it’s applied. And highlight accentuates the areas of the face that light hits. I’ll add Sephora’s “Glossed” lip gloss in the shade “Wild” to my lips and the shade “Moremi” from the Juvia’s Place Warrior I palette to the center of my right eye.
