Being An Entrepreneur Is A Mixed Blessing

Being An Entrepreneur Is A Mixed Blessing

Kim Muench, Becoming Me Thought Leader

Sometimes I feel like it would be a lot easier to just get a job and take a paycheck rather than to be an entrepreneur.

Does anyone else feel this way? The advantage of working for someone else is, once you’ve learned the job, you can do that job and know you’ll receive a steady paycheck. It’s safe, predictable, and secure. Just kidding, we all know there is nothing that’s actually secure these days.

“I have finally found consistent growth and reach on TikTok.”

Being An Entrepreneur:

Being an entrepreneur means I wear a lot of hats. And it means I spend a lot of time marketing myself. Somedays I spend more energy on creatively pitching me and my service than on actually doing what I want to be doing – coaching parents. Social media is my main method for reaching moms. My kids are all but grown and I no longer sit on bleachers or in recital halls for hours on end talking with other parents.

After years of trying to reach my target audience through Facebook and Instagram, I have finally found consistent growth and reach on TikTok.

“On the other hand, it can become intense and feel like I have to be “on” all the time.”

Creating Videos:

To develop a following on TT you’ve got to love creating videos. Like 3-4 videos a day. Thinking of content, shooting/editing the video, responding to comments, taking direct messages, and directing people to my website for more information is fun…and at times exhausting.

This goes on in between coaching sessions and podcast interviews. Mind you, these TT videos are usually under two minutes in length which means I need to capture people’s attention in a split second. On the one hand, I love challenging myself and being authentic.  I love to share my passion for parenting adolescents. On the other hand, it can become intense and feel like I have to be “on” all the time.

Pursue My Passion:

Though some days I fantasize about going back to a j-o-b, I wouldn’t trade the life I’ve created for myself for anything. At the end of 2020, I left my steady paying work to pursue my passion and each time I end a coaching session with a mom who feels less anxious and more confident, I know I’m doing exactly what I’m meant to do!

To connect with clients, I need to be marketing all the time. It’s a vicious circle. But, at the end of the day, while a job might be easier in some respects, I know I’ve made the best choice for me by sharing the now-more-than-ever important message of consciously parenting our kids!
