Connection Expert: Kay Newton
Recently I have felt the urge to get away from the computer. The need is deep, a growling that will not abate.
There is a vibrational push to be alone, at one with nature, to leave behind the daily madness of the outside world. When I walk along the local beach or adventure into the mountains, my shoulders straighten, my stride has bounce, and my thoughts sing. It is my happy place, yet I cannot share it with anyone – A sensibly Selfish time where I can breathe deeply, shake off recent emotions, and define new ones that serve me better.
It has to be time spent alone to process the ever-changing world and the part I have to play in it. June has been another month of new connections, bringing with them deep defining emotions. Here are the stories and the feelings I have connected to this month.
“We humans do not deserve to be on the planet.”
Karen Mason:
Whilst on a Virtual Voyage with eXXpedition (see last months post), I became involved in local beach cleaning here in Mallorca, Spain. The main culprit on our non-smoking beach – cigarette butts! Typing fag tabs into Google led me to a photograph by Karen Mason.
As a parent myself, when I saw the image above, I felt sick, sad and furious.
I imagined having nothing left in the world to feed my kids but poisonous plastic cigarette stubs. It was the stuff of nightmares – literally. We humans do not deserve to be on the planet. How can we stand by and let nature have to deal with our crap? I am still ranting about it weeks later!
Good Things Always Come From Bad:
The emotions I felt led me to investigate and connect to Karen. We chatted for an hour (not long enough) we have so much in common. Karen told me that she has been photographing the Skimmers for over ten years. She took the image at the same time as stewarding to save their environment.
When she realized what she had captured on camera, she was livid.
Her actions for me were inspirational – this quiet, gentile photographer and tree hugger had reached her tipping point. Karen developed the photographs and sent them out – everywhere. They became viral, and the rest is history. This wonderful person of my generation had taken a simple action. If Karen can do it, we all can. Even if it is to pick up litter, educate a child, volunteer at a local rescue centre, we have got this.
Ayelet Baron:
If you are a regular reader, you will also know I used Google to connect to Ayelet last year. Her final book in the F*ck The Bucket List trilogy came out this month and is well worth the effort to read.
I love my conversations with Ayelet which, are deep, meaningful and fill me with hope. We talk about another world, a connected one, where we learn how to ask great questions and explore possibilities. Such adventure will, in turn, lead to creating new concepts. Not just personally, but for our community and the planet.
I am excited to be trekking into the unknown with Ayelet by my side. If you want to join, message me, we have room for more!
“We are the ocean. Period – It is so simple. It is time to connect both – to care for ourselves and the planet.”
The Ocean To Nature:
Ayelet also knows of my passion for the ocean. She kindly connected me with visionary Romanus Berg. Romanus and I chatted about Oceana, my local community, the plastic parent’s agreement I am writing, and the art of storytelling. He left me with a link to a two-minute video that includes a 40-sec speech by JFK.
Watching on YouTube left me a complete blubbering wreck. I have since watched it 100s of times and still get goose pimples.
“We all came from the sea, and it is an interesting biological fact that all of us have in our veins the exact percentage of salt in our blood that exists in the ocean… We are tied to the ocean.” JFK
We are the ocean. Period – It is so simple. It is time to connect both – to care for ourselves and the planet. JFK says all that I feel in just one sentence. Oh! to be a storyteller and orator at this level – I am so inspired!
Jodi Clarke:
My final story this month is from down under – The land of Australia. I have yet to visit, yet in today’s world, the world comes to my home via Zoom! Deb Johnstone, whom I connected through Brand Builders Club in the UK, invited me to reach out to Jodi Clarke. Jodi is about to launch her free Health, Weight and Wellness Show.
Jodi’s personal story is both emotional and inspirational. A failed business, a cheating partner, and chronic fatigue, to name but a few. Yet Jodi sees trauma as times of Gold and Gratitude. Without them, we would not be the person we are today.
Jodi’s passion is to guide others to supercharge their wellness without diet. Experts from around the globe have gathered to talk about their favourite topics. I found the 40 minutes recording go by like a flash. I chatted about The Table of Life audit, plastic and toxicity. This show is worth listening to!
Gratitude And Nature:
Of all the roller coaster of emotions I have connected to this month, the deepest has to be gratitude. To be alive on the planet at this time is such a privilege. I am also grateful to…
- Audubon Ornithological society for connecting me to Karen Mason
- Ayelet Baron for connecting me to Romanus Berg and JFK
- Deb Johnstone for connecting me to Jodi Clarke
Are you my next connection? Reach out and say hello – you never know where it will lead.
