In Part One of this article we highlighted skin care preparation steps that can really make a difference in keeping your makeup from melting during the hot and humid months ahead of us.

In today’s Part Two, we’ll cover sunscreen and makeup tips that can keep you looking cool and collected on those sweltering summer July and August days.

Sunscreen and Makeup:

As I mentioned in Part One of this article, it probably goes without saying that “less is definitely more” when it comes to wearing makeup during the summer heat and humidity, so consider paring down the number of products you use. Sunscreen is an absolute must.

Use a gel based or a light lotion-based sunscreen rather than a heavy, creamy formula.

Some mineral sunscreens are tinted which might be all the “foundation” coverage you need.

Otherwise, consider a gel based or light weight foundation, BB Cream or CC cream which tend to be more lightweight.

If you don’t know the terms BB or CC: “The difference between BB and CC creams is subtle–CC generally stands for “color correcting” and the products are meant to address issues like redness or sallowness (usually with light-diffusing particles), whereas BB creams are like lighter foundation with a few skin care benefits thrown in.”

14 Sure Fire Ways To Keep The MakeUp In Place Despite Heat Miser’s Attendance:

  1. Or instead of a BB or CC Cream or tinted sunscreen, consider using just concealer on areas of your skin where you most need coverage.
  2. If you want to stick with a standard foundation, choose one that is specifically designated as “long wear.”
  3. Use a damp makeup sponge to gently “pat” and “push” the makeup into your skin and consider applying it only onto areas with redness or discoloration. Be sure to blend out the edges.
  4. Gently dab your eyelids with a Kleenex or cotton ball to absorb any oil before applying eye primer.
  5. Using an eye primer will keep your eyeshadow in place without any budging, smudging or creasing.
  6. Use waterproof eyebrow and eyeliner products.
  7. Rather than using a stick, cream or powder blush, consider using a cheek stain or tint and blend it in with a dampened sponge. Or, use a cream blush and apply a very light coat of translucent powder over it to increase its staying power.
  8. If you choose to use highlighter and/or bronzer, use a dampened sponge to apply it.
  9. All over face powder and hot skin do not mix well since powder clings and clogs your pores. Try using blotting papers instead.
  10. Don’t neglect your lips. Stretch your lips wide and apply concealer around the edge of your lips and blend well. You may even want to apply a very light coat of translucent powder over your lips. This will increase the staying power of your lipliner and lipstick.
  11. If your lipstick tends to “feather” or “migrate,” also use a lip product that is slightly waxy which fills in small, fine lines and keeps lipstick from migrating. (Elf makes a great one called “Lip Lock” for only $3.00).
  12. Apply a lip liner pencil that matches your lipstick or is a neutral color around the edge of your lips and then lightly fill them in with the lip liner.
  13. Apply your favorite lipstick over the lip liner. Then use the technique that many of our mothers used to keep their lipstick in place: gently blot your lips with a kleenex and then reapply another layer of lipstick. Lightly “layering” some of your makeup will definitely keep it in place longer.
  14. Complete your look with another spray of face setting spray to ensure a melt-down proof summer makeup look.
