Gratitude Thought Leader: Lori Saitz
Gratitude Cookies, my baking company failed. – So that happened.
I’ve finally reached a point where I can say that without the emotions of feeling like a loser.
“Every day I’d beat myself up and question my worth.”
I Questioned My Worth:
When I closed the baking company, it had to be done. I threw my heart and soul into that business. I’m a marketer. I’m good at branding. From the outside, it looked like I was doing a million dollars a year.
But in reality, I wasn’t even reaching six figures and had $72,489 in debt. It was actually more, because I stopped adding it up after that point. The failure of my business was imminent at this point.
And forget about paying yourself first. I never took a paycheck. Every day I’d beat myself up and question my worth. Because as I just said, I’m a marketer and I couldn’t even market my own damn business.
My husband, at the time, was angry, resentful, and hurt because I was putting all my time and energy into the business and none into our relationship. Oh, and he had no idea about the debt because I was hiding that from him as well. And I blamed myself for not working hard enough. Even though I worked ALL. THE. DAMN. TIME!
“To this day, they still ask if the Gratitude Cookies are ever coming back.”
The Story I Told:
I created a story around this whole situation about my ability to get clients and make money in my own business.
The story – that I didn’t have what it takes to be successful. Even though the clients I had were fanatical about the cookies. To this day, they still ask if the Gratitude Cookies are ever coming back. ☺ (Maybe, if the stars align perfectly.)
Shutting my business down was shameful and gut-wrenching. Not only did the business fail, I was a failure.
Fast forward eight years. It’s true, the business into which I invested my entire identity, didn’t work out the way I would have liked at that time.
“the truth about how hard work is not the path to success”
I see now, there’s no shame in that.
Path To Success:
The failure of my business happened. Now I can find the gratitude for every part of it because it put me on the path I’m on now. It led me to where I’m able to teach entrepreneurs, business leaders, and their teams the truth about how hard work is not the path to success. More importantly, I teach how they can tap into knowledge they didn’t know they had to find solutions to problems. I help them find stillness amidst chaos.
Sometimes the road closure and detour you curse, is sending you in the more right direction. The sooner you can find gratitude for it, the less time you have to spend in pain, cursing it.
Sending you love and light today on your journey.
