Did you eat, too much during the festive season? Then, you probably know the feeling of indigestion. There is nothing worse, then the stabbing pain in your upper abdomen or feeling as if your breastbone is suddenly on fire. Sometimes you can even be convinced you are about to have a heart attack. Serious indeed.
“three ways you are consuming emotional nutrition”
Yet there is another type of heartburn we very rarely speak of and probably the most important of all – the digestion of our emotions, experiences, and reactions. As we age, we have more history and memories to contend with. Your feelings, if not consumed efficiently, will cause you illness – both physical and mental dis-ease.
Let’s face it we live in a dog eat dog world. If you don’t eat it, it is likely to eat you! Here are three ways you are consuming emotional nutrition, see which one resonates with you.
Fast Feeling Food
Eating Fast Food may not be the best for you for many reasons. Fast is in the title. When you eat rapidly, indigestion is the result.
Tara, for example, has just received a compliment. Instead of taking it all on board and experiencing the moment. She lets the reaction in, ever so slightly. Tara feels a moment of gratification then immediately pushes it away.
Tara connects to her false personality. She subconsciously creates denial and represses her feelings about the compliment based on her memories. You cannot possibly be a victim or martyr if you eat a compliment slowly and enjoy the moment. Tara loves to be a victim.
Instead, for Tara, the compliment is left undigested and stored as dis-ease. Tara leaves positive experiences undigested, yet she ravenously eats negativity. The latest bad news, the trader in the local store who was rude to her, her son’s throw away comments. The emotions created then not acknowledged, add yet more negative baggage.
Tara wonders why she puts on weight has allergies and numerous other physical and mental ailments.
Good Emotional Dining
Sarah behaves differently to Tara, yet she understands her completely. Sarah has worked hard to become aware of her emotions and feelings. She takes the time to observe them whenever they surface in the present moment. It has not been easy, yet with practice, Sarah now stops to make time to experience the experience!
If Sarah received the same compliment as Tara, she would react differently. Sarah cuts off the steady stream of thoughts and feelings and accepts them for what they are, just vibrations. As Sarah connects with what energies emerge from the interaction, she can digest the experience fully.
She also avoids negativity in all shapes and forms, not watching the news, reacting to peoples behaviour and life circumstances. Sarah has limited life baggage, that over time will hold her down or cause illness. Yet because she has begun this practice later in life, sometimes ‘stuff’ occurs. Old feelings and emotions come up and they can manifest as illness. Sarah has to check in with herself to make sure her reactions are not damaging in any way.
Michelin Star Experience
Lara loves to look after herself. She has learned to create a personal fine-dining experience concerning her experiences, emotions, and reactions. Lara exists on a powerful nutritious diet of joy, inspiration, and love.
“Lara has dealt with all her memories and does not use them as a reference for the present experience”
It is not to say that life doesn’t happen to Lara, both the good and the bad. She knows only too well what if feels like to be Tara or Sarah. If Lara was to receive the same compliment as Tara, she can, experience experiences without any backlog (which Sarah may still have to acknowledge). Lara has dealt with all her memories and does not use them as a reference for the present experience.
Lara also connects deeply to trust and faith. She is confident that no matter what, the solution will imminently present itself. Because of Lara’s deep understanding of how her emotions and reactions to her experiences affect her health, she no longer succumbs to dis-ease.
Which One Are You?
You may recognise parts of Tara, Sara, and Lara in your everyday interactions. Sometimes the slightest nudge can take you down a path of blame, judgement, and criticism. You are human after, all.
Letting go of your past, making sure it does not affect any new experiences takes courage. You are the only one who can do the work on yourself. The first is step is to accept that the work is important and then make time. Even when you work on yourself, you can always ask for help. Find someone you trust to create the space to keep you on track without imposing themselves on your work.
The connection is to recognise how you emotionally eat life, ask yourself:
- What can I do differently?
- How will my life be transformed?
- Who else will benefit from my new understandings?
Happy eating in 2021. Why not drop a line and let Kuel know what you plan to eat this year.
