Tapping into ancient seasonal festivals tied to the turning of the wheel of the year can be a really great way to ground yourself and participate in the beauty of the seasons.

Celebrating Mayday:

This month, around the world, people celebrate Mayday. Or what in Irish and Gaelic culture is called Bealtaine (pronounced Bel-ti-nah).

Traditionally this celebration is a fire festival, occurring halfway between the winter and the summer equinox. In addition, it celebrates the return of the sun, warmth, and the beginning of summer.

“At Bealtaine, livestock were moved from the lowland to the highland pastures, crops were planted.”

At Bealtaine, livestock were moved from the lowland to the highland pastures, crops were planted. And the beginning of summer was celebrated with bonfires and rituals. There is an annual Fire Festival held in Edinburgh, Scotland.

Celebrate The Return Of Summer This May:

This year the day between the equinoxes fell on May 5th. But celebrations continue all month long. There was also a full moon on the 5th! It’s known as the Flower Moon, the Planting Moon, and the Milk Moon, all having to do with the return of summer and times of celebration and plenty.

Moreover, take some time to celebrate the return of summer this May in a garden, with a bonfire, on a long walk, or anything that will get you connected to nature. This would be a great time to host a women’s circle gathering, to socialize, and celebrate the end of winter! For some of us, it has been a very long winter, take this time to celebrate the return of summer by spending some time with good friends out in nature. It will do your soul good.
